He previously worked for the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in Rwanda as Director and Treasury Adviser to the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury. Denis was later employed by the National Bank of Rwanda as the Director of Risk Management and Compliance. He was a key adviser and negotiator of government strategic contracts during the World Economic Forum and the African Development Bank Annual Meetings.
Denis received his master’s degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma Christian University. Prior to that Denis also got a certified banker certificate from Access School of excellence in Nigeria Lagos.
Since November 2015, the National Bank of Rwanda acquired high speed cash processing machines (BPS M7). This aimed at improving operational efficiency, faster and accurate accounting, planning, monitoring and control, as well as the counting and sorting of deposits from commercial banks.
The acquisition of cash processing solution contributed to the decrease of issuance of fresh notes and minimised the printing cost compared to the four previous years. At the beginning of 2017, we started the state-of-the-art project of vault automation, including Standard Transport Unit for Cash and Compass VMS (Cash Management System).
The automated cash management processes have allowed the bank to increase the current storage space 3 times within the same location without changing the building structure. The storage condition has also changed significantly. All our cash management processes are now automated with constant report of cash situation.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of staff working at the Bank decreased and reduced the number of cash withdrawal from commercial banks. This was for the safety and security of our customers and our staff. Business has come back to normal but our teams are divided in two for business continuity purposes.
